Looking for the perfect foreground plant for that dry sunny or shaded area in your yard?  We think we have it right here!  Bird’s Foot Violet reaches to 8″ tall and produces purple blooms with orange centers in early Spring.   Your reward?  The aforementioned purple blooms in the spring often followed by another bloom in the fall.  The common name is based on the shape of the leaves which resemble a bird’s foot.  Fritillary butterflies are fond of both Bird’s Foot and Prairie Violet for their caterpillars.
