Canada Milkvetch is a common and widespread member of the legume family in North America.  As such, these nitrogen fixers help to enrich the soil in their immediate area with the nitrates they are producing.  The flowering stalk is topped with a conical shaped flowering structure that resembles a pine cone but opens up into a number of white to yellow tubular flowers.  Browsers and grazers are fond of this species and in areas where they are present it may be difficult to get the plant established.  That being said we’ve seen some authors suggesting that this species is toxic while others state it is relished by deer, rabbits and livestock.  Other members of this genus are confirmed toxic to livestock.
