Fringed Gentian, a short-lived perennial that reseeds itself, is so named because the violet purple petals are dissected along their edge giving them a fringed appearance.   A rare wildflower anymore due to habitat destruction, by planting it you’re helping supply nectar and leaves to insects that need this species to complete their lifecycle.  In mid-March of 2025 our plants are sizing up quickly.  Presently we have some plants forming a rosette that is 1″- 2″ across with others being smaller.
