I remember the first time I saw this species in the Hocking Hills region of SE Ohio.  Along the berm of a dirt road as we were looking for caterpillars we came across a colony of Goat’s Beard in full bloom.  The sight was spectacular!  The vegetative part of the plant was upwards of 2′ tall but the white flowering, feathery plume extended another 2′ above that.  The flowers were brilliant white which contrasted nicely with the deep green of the early summer foliage in the park.  The feathery flower plumes were loaded with bees, wasps and other insects actively collecting pollen.
