Light blue flowers are produced in September through October and are in important component of late season pollen and nectar producing plants in eastern woodlands.  Some authors report that planting this species in a disturbed area will increase flower production.  Wooded areas that have been thinned are a good location for this species as the increased light generally results in better growth and more flowers.  Also known as Blue Wood Aster.
