A tall plant topped with a bonnet of purple flowers that attract many different kinds of pollinators including Tiger Swallowtails.  HJPW exhibits some resistance to browsing by deer and the seeds are a food source for goldfinches and other birds of the field.   Not a risk for spreading aggressively or outgrowing a small area. Hollow Joe Pye Weed has a rich history in Native American culture as an herbal remedy.  This species is actually named for a Mohican leader who also went by the name Joe Pye.
