A wonderful plant for naturalizing in rich soil in woodland area or along a border, Jacob’s Ladder blooms with shades of pink and blue very early in the season. The most important criterion for success is moisture. This plant will freely self-seed under optimal growing conditions.

Areas that are too dry or too wet will be lethal to this little plant. If your area is dry, consider amending the area with organic components like peat moss or composted leaves. The addition of this material will help to increase the water holding capacity of your soil. If your soil is too wet, consider adding sand or even a raised bed over the area to keep the plant high and out of the sogginess.
