Similar to the other ironweeds we grow, Missouri Ironweed is an upright growing perennial with magenta flowers produced in the fall.  Common in pastures and disturbed areas ironweeds are not readily eaten by cows, horses or deer because the contain distasteful chemicals.  Missouri Ironweed is sometimes considered the showiest ironweed species in North America.  This plant spreads by rhizomes and by seed and once planted may take a few years before it flowers.  We’ve seen it flower in its first year here in the nursery.
