During fall many plants have nearly completed their life cycles for the year and are thus not very useful to native pollinators.  Fortunately, species like ironweeds, goldenrods and asters are just getting started and boast beautiful colors that attract butterflies, moths, flies, bees and beetles.  Ironweed is easily found in farm country as its bitter tasting compounds keep cows, horses and deer at bay.

Tall Ironweed has beautiful magenta-colored flowers borne atop 5′ stems and is native primarily to the eastern half of the United States.
